GDP
Opportunities
Group design projects are available for 4th year students on our undergraduate Masters programmes.
Here are some short video clips explaining the what, why and how of our GDPs, and a couple of longer ones where a recent GDP talks about what they achieved and their experience.
One of our recent GDPs developed an autonomous robot for inspecting floating offshore wind turbine riser cables. Their work was published in a leading international journal:
Christopher Gotts, Benjamin Hall, Oliver Beaumont, Ziyang Chen, William Cleaver, James England, David White, Blair Thornton, Development of a Prototype Autonomous Inspection Robot for Offshore Riser Cables, in Ocean Engineering (Accepted)
Take a look at their amazing achievement and hear about their experience.
A recent GDP designed and built an international moth class sailing boat using sustainably sourced materials and components. The “Moonshot” used a flax fibre and bio-resin hull, with wing bars made from wood. This boat was entered into the 2022 SuMoth (sustainable moth class sailing boat) challenge held in Lake Garda, and was awarded gold in the Reliability and Sustainability categories and silver in Design. It also achieved the highest speed in the challenge.
